The University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, in partnership with Corales de Paz, Colombia, would like to annunce the upcoming 3rd edition of the international training workshop “MALDIVIAN CORAL REEF RESTORATION”.
Registration deadline: 1st October 2019
At this purpose, we organize for all those who want to join us in this important scientific mission in its THIRD EDITION, a 9-day intensive full-time 80 hours’ hands-on, in-water practical program. The workshop touches on current best practices, appropriate design, logistics and evaluation of a restorationproject and the program will be divided into a series of classroom lessons and field activities. Lessons will be held at the MaRHE Center (www.marhe.unimib.it) Magoodhoo Island, Faafu Atoll, MALDIVES.
All field activities will be carried out on SCUBA diving and snorkelling equipment.
Content of the workshop
The course will consist of a series of lectures and field activities held by international researchers with experience working in tropical marine environments.
After this training period you will be able to:
– build mid water coral nursery
– populate coral nurseries
– maintain and monitor underwater coral nurseries
– out-plant corals onto a degraded reef site
– improve your knowledge on corals identifications
– assess and monitor sites for coral reef restoration
– understand best practices for carrying out your own coral reef restoration project
By attending the workshop, participants will be provided with a certificate of practices and knowledge on coral reef restoration trough an international virtual credit named Open Badge released by the University of the Milano-Bicocca.
