We can return to the same site many times without seeing the same scene. The time of day, the angle of the sun, the visibility, and the orientation of the wall all affect contrasts, the perception of volumes, and the readability of details.
Then flashlights, flashlights, and illuminators come into play. Their beams bring out a detail from the darkness, guiding the gaze along a wall, and making visible what, without light, would remain invisible.
