On Saturday, September 11, at 21 p.m., the Alberto Gianni Maritime Museum in Viareggio, a place steeped in naval history and tradition and dedicated to the memory of the Palombari dell'Artiglio, will host a conference to present the book ANDREA DORIA -74 by Stefano Carletti, published by Magenes Editoriale.

Summer 1968, Atlantic Ocean.
Aboard the Narragansett, young Stefano Carletti takes notes, dive after dive, on what he sees while descending to the wreck of the Andrea Doria. Upon his return home, his writings will become the quintessential book on the Andrea Doria.
What remains today of the first edition of the book “Andrea Doria -74” by Stefano Carletti?
The memory of mythical dives, of images with a taste of times gone by, Italianness carved out of a plate of spaghetti, a shark cage, a plaque honoring the "Beautiful ship stuck in the ocean floor like a dagger" but above all a wire brush scraping the encrusted surface of the wreck.
The hand of a young diver removes the patina of time from a ship and tells the world, like an archaeologist, that that ship is indeed the Andrea Doria.

A legend is born that spans generations. Today, as the wreck is disappearing, the first edition of the book "Andrea Doria -74" is almost impossible to find: a memento for bibliophiles. Magenes Editoriale has decided to publish a new, complete edition of the volume, fifty-three years after its first publication. Stefano Carletti's texts are thus revived, but above all, those fantastic images from the time, enhanced in digital graphic quality by Luca Maresca.

The conference was organized by the ARTIGLIO DIVING CLUB and strongly supported by its President, Barbara Lippi. The evening will be introduced by the book's author, Stefano Carletti, who will recount and entertain the audience with anecdotes from his legendary expedition to the wreck of the Andrea Doria. Andrea Murdock Alpini, a diver and researcher of shipwreck histories, who wrote the afterword in the new edition of the book, ANDREA DORIA – 74, will also speak at the conference.
During the book presentation, "ANDREA DORIA – 74," the public will be able to ask the author questions. At the end of the evening, signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.
