Ocean Film Festival Italia 2023 returns to the big screen.
Born in 2014 in Australia, the Ocean Film Festival is one of the most important travelling festivals and presents films from all over the world dedicated to the sea, ocean life, action sports in a marine environment – diving, scuba diving, sailing, surfing – wildlife or relating to topics of environmental relevance.
Each year, 300 films are examined, of which approximately ten are selected for the final program to be offered to the public.
Present in Italy since 2017, the OCEAN Film Festival is organized by ITACA The Outdoor Community, which specializes in traveling film festivals dedicated to adventure films that tell stories of the sea and mountains.
In addition to the OCEAN Film Festival, ITACA also curates, organizes, and promotes the BANFF Mountain Film Festival and the Reel Rock Tour, and founded and manages the ITACAOnDemand streaming platform.
OCEAN Film Festival is also present in Spain, Great Britain, New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil and the United States.
A world as fragile as it is powerful
Indeed, never before has human activity posed such a threat to ecosystems that are delicate yet fundamental to the life and health of the planet.
The ocean is an important resource and source for humanity and the planet: the seas and oceans cover 70% of the Earth's surface, and constitute a vast ecosystem that, even more than the terrestrial one, is without borders.
The ocean is the world's most important protein reserve, supporting more than 3 billion people who depend on marine biodiversity for their livelihoods.
Educate about the marine ecosystem and raise awareness about protecting the environment in which we live
it is increasingly a necessity.
Our films explore the beauty of these worlds “above and below the water” through stories of wildlife, adventure, and water sports. They convey values such as love for nature and respect for the environment, raising awareness among the public about pursuing a sustainable lifestyle.
The Ocean Film Festival thus also becomes an opportunity to reflect on important environmental issues and to raise public awareness of virtuous behavior.
Ocean Film Festival Italy 2023
From 13th to 30th November, 16 stages to celebrate the planet water and inspire viewers to explore, respect, love and protect our oceans.
On November 13th, the OCEAN FILM FESTIVAL ITALIA sets sail , the Italian edition of the important Ocean Film Festival Australia, now in its 10th year, bringing on tour to the big screen a unique selection of films of varying lengths and styles that deal with themes such as adventure and exploration, the ocean environment, water sports, marine creatures, and coastal cultures.
Ten short and medium-length films document the beauty and power of the ocean through seductive cinematography, with stunning footage shot above and below the water's surface.
Each film in the festival conveys a deep respect and appreciation for the world's oceans and the creatures that inhabit them, and engages the viewer in thrilling adventures, transporting them to underwater scenes and fast-moving wave sequences, captured from incredible vantage points.
The first event will take place on the opening night of November 13th in Milan , and will then continue until November 30th in 15 other Italian cities such as Rome, Genoa, Turin, Florence, Bari and others.
The Ocean Film Festival Italia is committed to preserving our oceans : following the success of the “Foresta BANFF Italia” project, Itaca the Outdoor Community continues its collaboration with ZeroCO2, a Benefit Company that deals with reforestation with a high social impact.
"With the aim of protecting the coasts and defending marine ecosystems, we have decided to support an environmental regeneration project in Guatemala, which has lost over 60% of its mangroves over the last 25 years. Suspended on their aerial roots, halfway between land and sea, mangroves absorb CO2, protect marine areas, and provide vital resources for food security and community resilience," says Alessandra Raggio, CEO of Itaca the Outdoor Community. " Together with the Ocean Film Festival audience, we will help restore a unique and precious ecosystem by planting 100 mangroves. With this project, we want to highlight the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, increasing our positive impact on the environment and people's well-being."
