FEDERICO MANA: ANOTHER RECORD!
THE PIEDMONTESE SETS A NEW ITALIAN RECORD
OF CONSTANT WEIGHT FREEDIVING
A year later, Piedmontese athlete Federico Mana confirms his status as Italy's deepest freediver. After setting last year's record, which remains unbeaten, Federico has decided to try his hand at the pinnacle of freediving: constant weight.
In constant weight diving, athletes must rely solely on their own strength to descend to depth and cannot use additional weights or pull themselves up on the guide line during either the descent or the ascent.
On Sunday 24 August 2008, during an AIDA freediving competition in the warm waters of Sharm el Sheikh, Federico won the specialty competition and set a new Italian record by descending to the abysmal depth of 89 metres.
Mana's dive was performed using a monofin and lasted a full 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
The athlete's resurfacing, after a few interminable seconds awaiting the judges' positive verdict, was followed by shouts of joy and applause from friends and spectators.
Federico's joy, having been chasing and dreaming of this record for a long time, is visibly evident, and the joy of this moment outweighs the effort made in the undertaking.

This result lays a good foundation for the AIDA Team World Championships which will begin on September 1st 2008 during which Federico, sponsored by the diving center CAMELDIVE and from companies UNCONVENTIONAL training, IMPERIAL BULLDOG, aims to exceed 90 meters.
