A small and fascinating Mediterranean inhabitant returns to show itself in the waters of Cape Palinuro . In the Blue Grotto , considered the most important of the 36 submerged cavities along the coast, divers have recorded an increase in sightings of Hippocampus guttulatus , the long-snouted seahorse.

The Blue Grotto of Cape Palinuro
Hidden among cliffs and ravines, the Blue Grotto is one of the most famous underwater environments on the Cilento coast. Inside, you'll find elements of geological and biological interest, along with plays of light that characterize the dive.
The cave features speleothems , including stalactite and stalagmite columns, hydrothermal vents, and numerous marine organisms that colonize the cave's walls and ceiling. The dive is also accessible to recreational divers, but requires caution and respect for the delicate environment.
Seahorse sightings on the rise in Palinuro
During the most recent dives, the operators of the Palinuro Sub Diving Center have observed an increased presence of Hippocampus guttulatus.
Known as the long-snouted seahorse , this species is one of the most recognizable creatures in the Mediterranean. Encounters in the waters of Palinuro confirm the biological diversity of a habitat capable of supporting organisms of particular ecological interest.

The Blue Grotto preserves springs, geological formations and sensitive biological communities , which require correct behaviour during dives and continuous observation.
According to operators, the increase in seahorse sightings could also be linked to monitoring programs and divers' increased attention to the environment. This approach is necessary for exploring the waters associated with the mythological figure of Palinurus, Aeneas's helmsman , while limiting the impact on the cave's equilibrium.
