On Thursday, February 29, at 9:00 pm, at the Tortona Maritime Museum, via Pernigotti 14, the book "Andrea Doria: a piece of homeland," written by Andrea Murdock Alpini and published by Magenes, will be presented.
In its pages, “ Andrea Doria , as tall as a fortress, as vast as a city ,” relives the glories of the past while looking to the future of a new world.
The event is organized by the MUSEO DEL MARE DI TORTONA, with the support of PHY DIVING EQUIPMENT.

The book traces the history of the famous ocean liner and recounts the underwater expeditions undertaken by the author to discover the wreck of the Andrea Doria, up to the last one, sponsored by the Municipality of Genoa and the Ansaldo Foundation.
The volume, in addition to recounting the life of the ship Andrea Doria , presents the results obtained during the underwater expedition Un lembo di Patria which last July left from Genoa bound for New York and from there towards the Atlantic Ocean.
The international mission, coordinated by Phy Diving Equipment, had set itself the goal of documenting the state of conservation of the wreck of the famous turboship launched at the Ansaldo Naval Shipyard in Genoa Sestri Ponente in 1951.
The expedition was sponsored by the Department of Sport of the Municipality of Genoa and the Ansaldo Foundation.

Andrea Murdock Alpini's book, "Andrea Doria: A Piece of Homeland"
In this book, the author retraces the events of the famous and luxurious ship, which sank during its 101st voyage from Genoa to New York on July 26, 1956, not only through words but also through a rich collection of images and archival documents, some of which have never been published before. These documents reveal various behind-the-scenes stories of that dramatic night off Nantucket, the American trial, and the human experiences of the crew, VIPs, and passengers aboard the Italian ocean liner.

During the presentation, for the first time ever, images will also be shown from the dive carried out on the bow of the M/S Stockholm, which lies a few miles away from the wreck of the Andrea Doria.
During the evening, Andrea Murdock Alpini will tell an untold story of the elegant lady of the sea , rescued from the dust of time through photographs and underwater films that testify to the current state of conservation of the wreck on the ocean floor.
At the end of the meeting, the public will be able to take part in a guided tour of the Tortona Maritime Museum.
